Careers, Advice & Guidance

Careers Entitlement

Our aim is to provide students with information from varied sources to allow them to make informed decisions regarding options, further education, higher education, apprenticeships and future Career pathways. At MPS we use an independent careers adviser to offer information, advice and guidance to students.  They are a qualified Careers Practitioner. The independent careers adviser will visit school on a regular basis.

All School Years

We will provide the following exciting activities:

Employer Workshops – employers from various industries come into school usually during the afternoon or after-school.  Workshops are advertised to students via the Student Noticeboard which is read out to students during PSHE, on posters. Students are encouraged to sign up for these workshops.

Enrichment Day activities –  We plan activities such as Speed Employer Networking, employer led activities and Charity events. Visits to MPS from Universities, Colleges and employers to share information.  Roadshows to promote healthy living and Career opportunities.

Visits to Careers Fairs – meet local employers, colleges and universities to gain information.

Personalised visits to Local Employers – Usually offered to students in small groups.

Careers interviews – Referrals by staff, students and parents. All students can request an interview with a fully qualified careers practitioner. Please contact the school office to organise an appointment.

Careers & Working Party Club – Tuesday after school.  We explore skills and qualities, we learn about careers and further Education in a fun way.  Students evaluate Careers resources and support planning for future activities.

Year 10

Work Experience (WX) – Students will be encouraged to visit Careers to work with the team to plan for a work experience placement; they must sign an agreement to catch up with any missed work.  It is planned that many of our students will complete their WX placement during the school holidays.

Work Experience Entitlement  – Students will be encouraged to take up to 10 days in Year 10.
