Very proud of our MPS students who have risen to our challenge of completing a random act of kindness. This is just one example of this where it was so well received at the hospital it brought tears to everyone involved! Keep up the fantastic work all https://t.co/v5LkIhl0CV

Learning and Teaching

We provide our students with outstanding resources and support in every aspect of school life, from learning and teaching to staffing and subject specific expertise. The community will benefit from the brand new state of the art facilities tailored to develop students’ unique skill sets. We furnish the school with inviting and interactive classrooms and learning environments, providing fresh opportunities to explore the unknown. This is all be informed by up to date research and initiatives delivered by enthusiastic and passionate staff committed to providing children with the very best education experience.

Our professional learning seeks to make us increasingly research informed, while drawing from our experience in education. We have examined our understanding of learning which, has in turn, shaped our view of what makes 'Great Teaching' at Merstham Park School. This has guided the development of the 'MPS 5 for teaching', a collection of core principles.

The 'MPS 5 for teaching' is not a checklist for a lesson or things we are required to ‘show’ we are doing. “Teachers need to understand theory and evidence of learning and make informed judgements, not comply with rules” (David Weston). It is critical that these principles are shared and understood and then embedded in a meaningful way in the context of our own classrooms.

The 'MPS 5 for teaching' can be seen below:

We encourage students to embrace the 'MPS Learner' traits that we promote. These are reinforced to students through the MPS Learner lessons and assemblies. The 'MPS Learner' traits can be seen below:
