Celebration Evening

On Thursday 19 October, MPS hosted our annual Celebration Evening, which congratulates students who have been awarded Outstanding Effort and Outstanding Progress in every subject, in every year group.

Our guest speaker was Jack Pepper, an incredibly impressive young man who has already accomplished more in his life than many of us do in a lifetime.  A former Head Boy at Glyn School, he spoke of his journey from being a primary school student at St Martins in Epsom to becoming a composer, a broadcaster and a writer and now a musical theatre songwriter (we were treated to a preview of his latest song - In Tune) and freelance presenter.

As well as congratulating all the students who won awards, we were treated to some amazing performances from students past and present.  Thank you to Isabella B, Gabriel K and Luke W and also to our returning students Max, Aidan and Mason, who along with Luke gave us an amazing rendition of their GCSE Drama piece - ‘Bouncers’ by John Godber.

The evening concluded with 3 very special awards.  The Community Award in memory of Faye Stothart, was presented by Faye’s Mum and sister, Gina and Jodie Stothart to Jodie W (Y11)  for being a wonderful role model.  She was an amazing friend to Faye and continues to fundraise for charities that cared for Faye.  Jodie’s strength, courage and kindness made her the very worthy winner of this award.

The Mr Beard ‘Be your Best’ award is presented every year to 2 students who, throughout their time at MPS, have consistently demonstrated all the values of our school.  This year Emma C and Nathan A (both Y11) were our very worthy winners.  Their names will be engraved on a plaque in the Memorial Garden along with previous and future winners of this prestigious award.

Celebration Evening is one of the highlights of the year and it was really lovely to receive this email from a parent:

Just wanted to say thank you and what a wonderful evening last night was, I’m still smiling thinking about it.

The entertainment from the students was just brilliant, the guest speaker was really interesting, funny and inspiring for the students (and parents!) and the evening was so well run.

We are so lucky to have such a wonderful community school full of personable, inspiring and kind hearted teachers and staff who are absolutely in the right job. Wishing you all a very well earned half term break.

Congratulations to all of our winners.  Keep up the great work.
