Enriching the lives of students at MPS

Enrichment at MPS

Three times a year, MPS devotes an entire day to enriching the lives of our students, enabling them to thrive and excel at life, not just in school.  During the Spring Term Enrichment Day:

Year 7 students were focused on "Keeping Safe." Their day was filled with interactive sessions aimed at equipping them with essential skills and knowledge to navigate potential risks and emergencies effectively.  Topics covered included: First Aid (Choking) and Road and Personal Safety. Wayne Pickergill from 'I Can Save a Life' delivered CPR First Aid and our Anti-Bullying student ambassadors delivered a session on Anti-bullying.

Year 8 took part in a Health Day where they looked at why it is important to have a healthy mind, healthy body and healthy diet. We were lucky enough to have some fantastic activities run for us by Taylor Shaw around diet choices and they had the chance to make some delicious smoothies!  Students also took part in some yoga, mindfulness and fitness activities too.

Year 9 were learning about map reading and orienteering from our very own Duke of Edinburgh expert.  It is not surprising that in our modern world, many of our students had never come across a paper map of Merstham and the surrounding areas, and they were enthralled by how much they learnt simply by reading a map.

Year 10 took part in a Resilience Workshop delivered by Antonio Capasso the Mental Health Lead from the Chelsea Foundation and explored key resilience strategies designed to bolster mental and emotional well-being. From cultivating a growth mindset to practicing self-care and stress management, each session provided practical tools for overcoming obstacles and thriving in the face of adversity.

Year 11 spent the day in London which, as well as providing a different learning environment, also provided an opportunity to see life from a variety of different perspectives.

The students' enthusiasm and active participation were truly commendable, reflecting their genuine interest in the topics covered. It was evident that they all benefited greatly from the day, not only acquiring essential skills but also developing a heightened awareness of safety issues. Together, we continue to prioritise the safety and well-being of our students, ensuring they are equipped to navigate the world confidently and responsibly.
