Readathon Summer Party

Every year Merstham Park School gives our students the opportunity to take part in the school's Readathon. We encourage all students to read throughout the year, and during this event any money raised goes to the charity 'Read For Good'. The charity provides brand-new, carefully chosen books and regular professional storyteller sessions to the UK’s 30 major children’s hospitals. The service supports the disrupted learning of seriously ill children and gives them and their families precious distraction and comfort at a time when it’s needed the most. It is a lovely organisation for our students to support.

This year we were offered the chance to take part in their live summer party. Year 8 students had a fantastic time seeing and hearing from various authors including Manjeet Mann and Michael Rosen. They also had a short masterclass from the illustrator Sara McIntyre.

We hope that we will be able get a recording of the session and we will then show it to some of our other classes, particularly Year 7 as they are studying Manjeet Mann's 'The Crossing'.

There was a lot of laughter and the event reinforced how much fun reading is!  The school also won their book quiz and will be getting a book bundle.
